
Since 1998, the Foundation has provided over $3.0 million dollars in financial
aid through its various scholarship programs. The Foundation awards
scholarships to graduating high school seniors, current undergraduates and
masters or doctoral degree students pursuing degrees in manufacturing and
related fields at two-year and four-year colleges.

Applications started after 12:00 A.M. Midnight (EST) February 1, 2010 will not be considered.
Introduction
You must meet the following requirements to be eligible for a SME Education
Foundation scholarship:

Intend to pursuer a degree in a manufacturing related field of study.

Be a high school senior or enrolled in a college or university in the United
States or Canada.

Reside in the United States or Canada at the time the application is submitted
-
Meet minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) requirements

Pursue your degree on a full time basis (12 credits at a minimum)
Student Registration- To complete the registration process you
will need to fill in basic information about yourself. The system will
verify that your major is considered related to a "Manufacturing" career.
If your major is manufacturing related you will be assigned a password. Keep your password in a
safe place as you will need it to complete the rest of the application.
If your major is not related to manufacturing you will not be allowed to
proceed. We suggest that you visit http://www.scholarships.com/
to check on the availability of scholarships in your academic discipline.
Use the password from STEP 1 to log into the scholarship application. Once
you are in the scholarship application:

Upload documents in PDF or Word format.

Prepare a maximum 300 word statement explaining:

Applicant's career objectives in manufacturing engineering, manufacturing
engineering technology, or related field.

Applicant's educational objectives

How this scholarship would help the applicant attain the above objectives, and,

Why the applicant wants to enter this field.

Indicate internships, work and/or co-op experience, academic courses and
projects related to the applicant's intended area of study in college, and SME
or other professional memberships. High school applicants must include SAT or
ACT scores, extracurricular activities in which they are currently or
previously involved, and the name of the college or university they plan to

Submit one copy of transcript from the applicant's school(s).

High school seniors and college freshman must include high school transcripts
along with College transcripts.
All Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation. At least one of the
letters must be from the student's current school faculty. Letters of recommendation must be signed and less than 6 months old. Form letters of recommendation
or letters from relatives, friends or peers will not be considered. Unsigned
letters will not be considered.

The SME Ford PAS Scholarship requires one of the letters of recommendation to be
from a Ford PAS instructor.

The E. Wayne Kay Co-op Scholarship requires one of the letters of
recommendation to be from industry and one from the student's school
-
SME-EF FIRST Robotics Scholarship requires one recommendation from a FIRST faculty leader verifying participation.
